Behind the Brand: Designing the RetroGlo logo for Novelty Lights

When it comes to lighting products, especially those that evoke a sense of nostalgia, design plays a huge role in capturing the right mood and aesthetic. As a designer and marketing specialist for Novelty Lights, I was tasked with creating the logo, branding, and designs for one of our most unique products, the RetroGlo LED Bulbs. Here’s a look into the creative process behind bringing this product line to life.

The Logo: Bold, Funky, and Fun

The RetroGlo bulbs are inspired by classic holiday bulbs but with modern LED technology. This combination gave me a clear direction: create a brand that communicates the bulbs’ retro roots while highlighting their contemporary advantages.

The color palette for the logo includes shades pulled directly from the bulbs themselves, along with some modern accents to keep it contemporary. This approach ensured that the RetroGlo branding would appeal to a wide audience without feeling outdated.

The final logo, created using Illustrator, features a bold, rounded typeface reminiscent of 70’s advertisements.

Building a Consistent Visual Story

Once the logo and core design elements were in place, the next step was ensuring the branding carried across all customer touchpoints.

In regards to email and digital marketing, the designs continue to play with the retro theme while incorporating modern photography and layouts.
